In the following pages I will chronicle my step by step journey as a Church Planter
Timeless Truths

A few weeks ago, I was speaking at a conference in Anchorage, Alaska. After one of my sessions a young man came up to me and said, “I collect Bibles and I would like to give you this as a gift”. After handing it to me, he began to explain that this Bible was published in 1850 and was from the pre-civil war era. I was astonished at his generosity. After hugging his neck and telling him thank you, we continued talking for several minutes about his love for the scriptures.

When I got home, I started to ask myself questions about this amazingly rare book that I was given.
Who did this Bible belong to? Where did they attend church? Who was this persons Pastor? What was the theological and denominational stances of the person or people that have read the pages of this book?

Then it hit me!

Everything and everyone surrounding this Bible has passed away and been gone for many years. The Person, the Pastor, the Church, and the building they gathered in weekly have long since faded away. But not this Bible! It’s pages are as alive today as they were when they came off the printing press 165 years ago.

As I sit in my home writing this blog, with this timeless text sitting beside me, I am reminded of the reality of the words of Jesus recorded in Mathew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away”.
Because of this, may we not build our lives, churches, and ministries on the foundation of things that will only last a short while. Instead let us stand on the timeless truths and proclaim the permanent peace that can only be found from the words a King that will never pass away.
